Day 05: Caño Negro wildilife refuge/ Arenal
After breakfast, tour to Caño Negro Wildlife refuge: The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge is one of the most visited locations in the northern section of Costa Rica. Because it is relatively near the La Fortuna area, it makes Caño Negro a perfect destination for a day tour; it takes around 2 hours to get from Fortuna to Caño Negro. The refuge extends to about 25,000 acres, surrounded by secondary forest that's close to rivers, canals, and wetlands, which make it easy to observe around 307 bird species, 78 types of mammals, 30 fish species, 96 reptiles, and around 300 species of plants; they come together to make a magnificent scene.
Because of its large ecological contributions, Caño Negro became one of the most important wetlands in the world. The refuge serves as an important habitat for a great quantity of migratory birds, most of them in danger of extinction. They visit this natural paradise annually, which is declared as the third Ramsar site of major importance in the world. This statement was agreed upon at the Wetlands Convention of International Importance (Ramsar Convention).
The most significant problem in conserving the wetland is the expansion of livestock, which generates caking of the soil and therefore limits the growth of the species of plants and trees typical of the area. Forest segmentation is a consequence of the latter that has become an obvious threat for the reproduction of the vegetation due to the increasing difficulty for pollinating agents to move with ease from plant to plant, as well as animals who act as seed dispersers. Moreover, the loss of the variability of the population of animals is also dire consequence. The tour includes transportation, bilingual guide, entrance fee, and lunch. Overnight at Silencio del Campo.
Day 06: Arenal/ Manuel Antonio
After breakfast, transfer with the shuttle bus to Manuel Antonio, This park is just south of Quepos on the Pacific Coast, 132 km from San José. Perhaps It is so popular because of its expensive white sand beaches backed by an evergreen forest that grows right up to the high tide line. The principal habitants are primary forest, secondary forest, mangrove swamps, lagoons and beach vegetation. There is quite a varied fauna with 109 species of mammals and 184 of birds. The park includes 12 little isles just off the coast; these are a number of dolphins and, at times, migrating whales can be observed. Overnight at Vela Bar hotel, located just a few steps from the National Park and the beach.

A delicious European-Costa Rican style cooking, homemade bread ,and deserts receive very high praise.
Day 09:Corcovado National Park
You have to wake up really early to eat breakfast and be ready to leave for the park before 7:00 a.m. Corcovado National Park is probably the most isolated and beautiful park in the country. You can see all four Costa Rican species of monkeys there. Bring your bird book because there are over 400 species in the area. However, it's not easy spotting them among the dense primary rain forest.
Watch your step so you don't get in the way of the army ants. Your guide will show you strange and wonderful trees such as the "Leche de Vaca" (which the Indians used to cure ulcers) and the "Walking Tree" (which actually moves several inches each year). He will explain more or less how this special ecosystem functions, although the greatest experts admit they may know less than half of the total species that live here. There may be one hundred different types of trees in one hundred meters. At midday you stop to eat your picnic lunch on a deserted beach or else swim at San Pedrillo waterfall. The 4-5 hour walk is not terribly difficult but be prepared for a lot of ups and downs through the uneven jungle. You will be ready for a shower and a snooze when you return to the hotel. Dinner.
